Wilton Manors, FL, United States (AHN) –

An elderly Florida man called 911 to report a murder-suicide at his home. Authorities say he then ended the call and shot and killed his wife and then turned the gun on himself.

When officers arrived at the home of William Mehner early Thursday morning they found him and his wife, Janet Mehner, dead inside.

Both 87-year-olds had gunshot wounds and a gun was found next to Mr. Mehner’s body.

Neighbors say the couple lived in the home since the 1950’s. They were also seen at a neighborhood block party celebrating St. Patrick’s day and according to reports nothing appeared unusual.

It remains unknown what caused the man to commit murder-suicide.
